When I began volunteering for C-STEM eight years ago, I was excited to have a found an organization that cared as much about uplifting and encouraging minority students to take an interest in STEM as I did. Therefore, when I learned of the chance to become a board member one year later, I knew that C-STEM was the place where I could create the biggest impact and create transformational opportunities for students that don’t have equitable access to such opportunities. With C-STEM, not only have I interacted with students but I also have had the privilege of understanding the educator perspective and how best to support them so they can support our students. By participating in C-STEM’s inclination to achieve change through local, state, and national policies I have been able to reach and teach thousands of students, teachers, and STEM professionals. It is because of the success in which we’ve amplified student advancement in STEM that I am passionate about the opportunity to access more students with the ‘Anywhere C-STEM Toolkit’ campaign.

C-STEM has always provided innovative solutions for children of all ages to learn and experience learning with their hands, to solve problems, think critically, and connect with real-world issues. So when the COVID-19 pandemic entered all of our lives, I could rest assured that C-STEM would provide a solution that could continue to bridge education gaps during these difficult times of social distancing.  When C-STEM launched a Campaign, ‘Anywhere C-STEM Toolkits’, to provide 30,000 Toolkits to 30,000 students, without hesitation I signed on.

Learning doesn’t have to stop due to students’ inability to reach a classroom. It should be occurring at home just as it does at school.  C-STEM has found a way through this Campaign to empower parents who are often counted out and aid them in being a stronger academic partner with schools and a more vested participant in their child’s learning.
