My journey to becoming a dog lover started on July 9th, 1994.  On that fateful day, my family spontaneously stopped at the Addison County Humane Society on our way home from our Camp on Lake Dunmore.  As we walked through the dog kennels, we noticed that only one dog was not barking.  "Rusty" was named for his orangey thick coat; he appeared to be mostly labrador with hints of a fluffier breed.  After spending some time with Rusty outside, we made the decision to take him home.  Rusty became "Ollie" after Oliver, the Musical, and the rest was history.  Ollie became my confidant, sleepover buddy, protector from mean middle school girls, and all around best friend.  We said goodbye to him nearly 11 years after bringing home.  I was sadly away for my freshman year of college, and I will never forget the deep ache of losing my first beloved pet.  I know that without Ollie, there never would have been a Basil, Maisy, or Morgan.  Ollie is responsible for teaching me the power of unconditional doggie love and a big contributor in making me the way I am today. 

So this past Fall, when I was approached about joining the Board of the Central Vermont Humane Society, it was a no-brainer.  CVHS is an incredible organization whose hardworking staff is devoted to caring for animals and giving them a voice.  I am truly in awe of the work that the CVHS staff does and the service the nonprofit provides to our community.  Upon joining the Board of CVHS, I was surprised to learn that CVHS is entirely dependent on private donations; CVHS is not affiliated with the Humane Society of the U.S. (which does not operate shelters) or any other organizations.  All proceeds raised through the Walk for Animals will help CVHS save animals and provide them with the care that all creatures deserve.  Please join me in raising money for this incredible organization!
