Where can I buy a ticket?
-
Tickets can be purchased at cityyear.la/playdrinkgive up to 3 days in advance. You can buy an individual ticket or a team for up to 7 players. If you’re not yet sure who will be playing on your team, that’s okay – when you register, you’ll receive a confirmation email which will include a link to a Team Registration form. You’ll need to complete this form by December 14th.
What if I buy an individual ticket and want to be placed in a team with my friends?
-
When you register for the event, there is an option to indicate that you would like to be matched with a team or friend who bought an individual ticket. We will do our best to accommodate that request.
How is the virtual event going to work?
-
When the time comes to play, everyone will log on to Zoom. The host will explain the rules and manage all the behind-the-scenes details. You get to sit back, relax, have a snack, and think while you drink.
-
The virtual event will be played with 4 rounds of trivia play – with 10 questions per each round, with a bonus question.
-
We recommend using 2 devices – the game works best if you watch the Zoom call with our host on a computer screen. Then use a smart phone to buzz in with your answers (you’ll get instructions as soon as you join the Zoom call on how to use Crowdpurr).
-
Be right and be fast – the faster you buzz in the more points you’ll get for a correct answer!
How will I receive my drink code if I purchased a Team package? (How do I redeem my Saucey coupon?)
-
You will receive a separate email from our Alcohol Delivery vendor Saucey directly with instructions to redeem your code by the end of the day Monday, December 14th. If you have not received an email with your code, by then please contact Special Events Director, Sergio G. Hernandez at shernandez3@cityyear.org.
Why didn't I receive a drink code from Saucey?

I Downloaded Zoom for Virtual Trivia. Now What?
-
So, you’ve downloaded Zoom and you’ve got your wine, quarantine snacks, and are all set for virtual live trivia. There’s only one thing left to do: figure out how Zoom works! You may be asking yourself, what’s a meeting ID? How do I mute myself? How do I turn off my video? What day is it? We can’t help you with that last one, but here are some tips for maximizing the trivia fun while managing this new technology.
What’s a meeting ID?
- You should have received an email from City Year LA with a link or a meeting ID. What’s that? Simply put, a meeting ID is a unique identifier for each meeting. You’ll need it to access the trivia game at its scheduled start time.
-
Start by opening the Zoom app. We recommend doing so on desktop, but you can also use a mobile device. When Zoom opens, you’ll see this prompt to “Join a Meeting.
-
Enter the 11-digit meeting ID. Don’t worry about the dashes; Zoom enters those automatically. For example, if the meeting ID your friend sent is 111-1111-1111, just enter 1111111111. You can also copy and paste a link into this field and Zoom will use it to know the meeting ID.
-
In the box that says “Enter your name,” type in the name by which you want to be known. Then hit Join!
Oops! I put in the wrong thing. How do I change my Zoom name?
-
Did you name yourself something you shouldn’t have and want to change it to something else? Is the host asking you to change your name to your team name? You can easily change your Zoom name by hovering over your video and clicking on the ellipses (the “…” ) in the top right and choosing “Rename.” Can’t find your own video? Go to the participants list and find the ellipses there.
-
Because Zoom saves this name for the next time you login, don’t forget to change the name when you’re done with trivia. It might be a little embarrassing to enter a work meeting with the name “Here for Beer.”
Do I have to have my camera on?
-
Yes please! We highly recommend keeping your camera on so we can see you and you can see us! We want to see you smile, laugh, hit your head against the wall when you get the answer wrong... Here is how to do it. When you first join, a prompt will ask if you want to turn on your camera. If you don’t allow access to the webcam, a pop up will appear saying: Cannot start video. And then you’ll have to go down a rabbit hole of settings to get your webcam to work on Zoom. So, we recommend allowing the app to access your camera now, and toggling video on/off later as desired.
-
The same thing goes for audio – when you see a box pop up that says “Join with Computer Audio,” click it! If you don’t, you won’t be able to hear anyone else and they won’t be able to hear you. You can still turn your microphone off later.
Okay, I’m in. What are all these options at the bottom of my screen?
-
The number of options you have in a Zoom meeting depends on your role in that meeting. With so many options, and so little time, the main two icons that we want to point out for someone attending a trivia game on Zoom are the two on the left. The icon on the very left is for muting and unmuting yourself. Next to it, you can start and stop your video.
Sweet, but what else can I do on Zoom?
-
Now you know the basics. Did you also know that you can have cool backgrounds, touch up your appearance, and set up keyboard shortcuts?
-
When it comes to backgrounds, the possibilities are endless, but we have created your team background. In the confirmation email on Monday you will have a link to download it. Be warned though, if your computer isn’t up to Zoom’s technical specifications, you’ll need a green screen. You can also have a virtual background on iPhone 8 or newer.
-
Ready to be more advanced? Here’s some sweet keyboard shortcuts.
Will the Zoom breakout rooms be used to play with my team?
-
We are going to use the breakout rooms three times during the event. The host will share the trivia questions, he will then send you and your teammates to a breakout out room where you can discuss the question and decide on your answer. Nearly 50% of the game is spent in this room hanging out with just your friends and family! Two out of the four rounds will be played using this method.
How do I communicate with my team-mates?
-
We highly encourage you to use a group text or platforms like GroupMe/Slack /WhatsApp to communicate with your team.
Is it ok if my team-mates and I are not in the same location?
-
Correct. You can all be in the comfort and safety of your own individual homes.
