Dallas Congenital Heart Walk presented by Children's Health

Dearest friends and family, we are raising funds with The Children’s The Children's Heart Foundation for this year’s heart walk in Dallas!! The walk will be held on September 27, 2025!

This foundation is near and dear to our heart as it funds research on the number one birth defect in America, Congenital Heart Defects (CHDs). Did you know that 1-in-110 babies are born with a heart defect? Of those 0.9%, 1-in-4 children require life-saving surgeries to prolong and support their life.

This endeavor is all about supporting The Children's Heart Foundation and their crucial mission - advancing the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects through groundbreaking research.

Our son Dakota, was born with multiple CHD‘s. His heart defects went undetected throughout the entire pregnancy and almost went unnoticed before we were released from the hospital. Thankfully, his NICU doctor caught his heart murmur, and he had an echocardiogram which presented his heart conditions. We were immediately transported to Children’s Hospital in Dallas. At 10 days old, Dakota underwent his first successful open-heart surgery to repair his Coarctation of the Aortic Valve.

Although this corrected one condition, Dakota still lives with two heart defects that will be monitored and maintained for the rest of his life. Eventually he will need at least one more open-heart surgery and multiple catheter balloon valvuloplasty surgeries. At one and a half years old Dakota underwent his first balloon valvoplasty to open up his Supravalvular Aortic Stenosis.

We are hoping and praying that Dakota‘s heart stays strong enough until he’s in his early teens, or older, before his heart will require a complete valve replacement, called the Ross procedure. If he can wait that long it would mean his heart valves are able to grow with him and require less open heart surgeries. However, there’s a possibility that he may need two open-heart surgeries and multiple balloon valvuloplasties in his life.
