My name is Douglas Cook, and I’m proud to serve as a Member-at-Large on the board for Blossom’s Animal Sanctuary. Being part of this incredible organization is an opportunity to help protect some of the most vulnerable creatures on the planet—orangutans. These gentle and intelligent animals have been pushed to the brink due to deforestation, illegal wildlife trade, and habitat loss, and I feel a deep responsibility to do my part in safeguarding their future.

My connection to wildlife conservation began years ago when I volunteered for a reforestation project and realized how interconnected our ecosystems truly are. Seeing the impact of human activity on wildlife inspired me to take action, and when I learned about Blossom’s mission, I knew it was something close to my heart. At the sanctuary, the focus is not just on rescuing orangutans but also on giving them a chance to thrive and, hopefully, return to the wild one day. It’s humbling to be part of an organization that makes such a tangible difference every day.

As a Member-at-Large, I contribute my time and skills to various projects that support the sanctuary’s operations, from community outreach to planning initiatives that raise awareness about our mission. It’s a privilege to work alongside a dedicated team that shares my passion for protecting these endangered animals. This year, I’m taking on a unique challenge that combines fun with purpose—I’ll be hitting the dance floor for the “Dancing with the Board” fundraiser! While I wouldn’t call myself a natural dancer, I’m more than willing to step up (and maybe trip a little) to raise funds and shine a light on our vital work.

Participating in this fundraiser is not just about having fun—it’s about building a community around a shared goal of protecting orangutans and their habitats. I’m incredibly excited to share Blossom’s story, connect with supporters, and make a real impact through this event. Being part of Blossom’s Animal Sanctuary has brought so much meaning to my life, and I’m constantly inspired by the resilience of the orangutans we care for.
