Asher’s journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been filled with incredible people who have helped him grow stronger every step of the way. Children’s TherAplay has been at the heart of that!
As most of you know, our son Asher has Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy. He has been receiving services at Children’s TherAplay since he was just 18 months old. From the very beginning, this place has been so much more than a therapy center to us. It's been a source of hope, progress, and unwavering support.
Asher currently attends services at TherAplay four out of five days each week. He receives physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and one of their most unique and impactful services, hippotherapy. Hippotherapy uses the natural movement of a horse as part of treatment, and it has been truly incredible for Asher. It has helped him build core strength, improve coordination, and make meaningful progress that carries over into his everyday life.
These therapies are not just helpful, they are essential. They allow Asher to gain strength, improve mobility, and work toward greater independence in all aspects of his daily life.
In August 2025, Asher underwent Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) surgery, a major neurosurgery procedure that reduces muscle spasticity. While this surgery has been life changing, the success of SDR depends heavily on intensive, ongoing rehabilitation. This requires a significant amount of therapy to help retrain his muscles, build strength, and learn new movement patterns. TherAplay has been an integral part of that journey, providing the consistent, specialized care he needs to make the most of this opportunity.
TherAplay has walked alongside our family through every stage, celebrating victories, supporting us through challenges, and always believing in Asher’s potential. The therapists do not just provide care, they build relationships, encourage confidence, and truly see each child for who they are.
Because of how much this organization has meant to us, I chose to join the Board this past year. It's been an incredibly rewarding experience to give back to a place that has given so much to our family.
TherAplay serves so many families in our community who are navigating life with a child who has disabilities. These therapies are critical, but they can also be expensive and are not always fully covered by insurance. Donations help bridge that gap. They provide access to life changing services, fund scholarships for families in need, and ensure that unique programs like hippotherapy continue to be available.
