My Personal Fundraising Page

My name is Dale Coddington and cycling has been a big part of my family's life. My beautiful, caring daughter passed away unexpectedly in February 2014 and since then I have wanted to do something in honor and memory of her. Not just a 100-mile bike ride that I do by myself and for myself in February, but something to make a difference for others and to remember her.

Tania was a social worker who was dedicated to helping others. She worked at Memorial Medical Center and it was so rewarding to have so many people she had helped through a crisis come to us at her service and tell us their story.

I am 72 years old and for many years had a desire to ride my bicycle coast to coast. I had decided I was too old, but recently had a change of heart. I am retired and can take as long as needed (maybe three months).

In 2014 my son Chris and I had planned a raft trip down the Colorado River with a 10-mile hike from the river at Phantom Ranch to the South Rim. The trip was scheduled for only two months after Tania's death. My family convinced me that Tania would want me to take the trip as planned, even though I didn't want to.

I am so glad I took the trip, not only for the time I was able to spend with Chris, but with the time I spent knowing Tania was with me.

I do well on a bicycle but not hiking, especially 10 miles with a one-mile elevation change. With Chris's help carrying my pack at times and with the thought of Tania's help I made it. Most of all I knew she would have been standing at the top to congratulate me and give me a hug.

I know she will be with me every day on this Coast to Coast ride in her memory and most of all to help others by helping Hospice.

Tania and Jim Deren gave us a beautiful, loving and caring granddaughter, Abby. She is now a junior at Purdue University with the goal of becoming a physical therapist.

Not only because Center for Hospice Care is a fantastic organization dedicated to helping others, but becasue of Abby I have chosedn to do my ride to raise funds for them. Abby wanted the funds to go to their bereavement program becasue of the help they gave her. Center for Hospice Care not only helps those in the last days of their lives, they help those left behind to grieve. I want to thank Center for Hospice Care for the part their counseling service played in helping Abby through a very difficult time in her life.

I will begin my ride in February starting in St. Augustine, FL and ending in San Diego, CA. My wife will drive our motor home for sleeping and eating on the trip.

All donations will go to Center for Hospice Care, which is a not-for-profit organization. I will cover all of my expenses for the trip. 100% of donations will go directly to Center for Hospice Care.

Ways to Donate

While online donations are certainly appreciated, that is not the only way to support the ride! Cash and checks will be accepted by Dale and his family, or checks can be mailed directly to:
