Deadlifts for Dreams is BACK for 2021!
Deadlifts for Dreams is BACK! Now in its 3rd year, we think this year’s event will be the best one yet!
After raising over $55,000 dollars since 2019, Deadlifts for Dreams 3 is back to once again support The Dream Factory and help make another dream come true for a child in our community battling a life-threatening illness.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, September 11 2021. We’re planning for a safe and accessible outdoor meet at Training Grounds Gym in St. Malo*.
NEW to the event this year will be the axel lift! We invite our friends from the strongman community to join Deadlifts for Dreams this year and help us make another dream come true.
This year’s event is all about community, and coming back together in support of a Dream come true. If you are concerned that you are out of practice, or might not have enough time to train - please consider still joining us in our mission to make a dream come true. Our Deadlifts community is one that is accessible, welcoming, and supportive - no matter how much you lift on the day.
Most importantly, this year’s event is in support of Jasmine, an incredibly tough young woman in our community. Jasmine has a rare lung condition called Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia, which affects how her body clears out mucus and bacteria. She has an incredibly positive outlook on life, loves her family, friends, and ringette - and is dreaming of a trip to Montreal!

*If lifters would prefer to participate but record their lift virtually or from a home/gym space they are more comfortable in - that is absolutely welcome!
Meet Details:
A Few Things to Note:
- If you are inside but not warming up or lifting, we kindly ask that you wear a mask. Masks will not be required outdoors.
- Bring a lawn chair! As this is an outdoor event, we’re asking participants to please bring their own seating for spectating/BBQ.
- Spectators are welcome - but we ask that they stay in the outdoor area with the exception of using the restroom.
- In the event of rain, seating will be moved indoors. If this occurs; we would ask that folks please wear a mask inside.
Given the Aug 7th changes to gathering sizes; here’s how D4D3 on September 11th will work:
The event is scheduled to run from 10:00AM-1:00PM at Training Grounds Gym in St. Malo. It is an indoor/outdoor gym, and the platform will be located just inside the overhead door.
Our first ever Deadlifts BBQ will begin at 12:00PM! Deadlifting flights will run from 10-12; with the Axle Lift from 12-1.
NOTE: If you are planning to Axle Lift - please email andrew@thedreamfactory.ca so that you are put in the correct flight.
Prior to the event (1 week before); lifters will be assigned to a flight (deadlifters 10-11 or 11-12; axle lifters, 12-1). If the time provided does not work, just let us know and we can definitely accommodate!
Lifters are welcome to join us as early at 9:00 for warmups and stay for the duration of the event. We know it’s an out of town event - and we’re so looking forward to spending the day with you!
A Letter from Dream Kid Jasmine
I’m Jasmine, and I have a rare lung condition called PCD, which is short for Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia. That means my cilia (AKA my nose hairs and ear hairs) don’t function like most people’s. My cilia don’t help my body clear out mucus and bacteria so basically I must do it myself.
The method that I use at home to help my lungs is a 30-40 minute treatment starting with a “nebulizer”, which is a saline solution that I inhale, before using a device we call a “PEP”. A PEP is a tool used to create resistance during breathing exercises that forces the bacteria and mucus from the bottom of my lungs to prevent the risk of infection.
If I don’t treat my lungs 3 times a day, I start feeling sick with a headache, a fever and it becomes more difficult to breathe. Another thing that comes along with having a condition is needing to go to the hospital yearly for what I call a “tune up” which is IV medicine for a 2 week period.
As a quirky, outgoing and positive person, I try to make friends with the nurses and doctors, and even with a PICC line in my arm, I still request to do exercises. The difficult thing about having a condition like this is the big responsibilities that come with it and always making sure that I stay on top of it.
However, this suits my personality, because PCD has shaped me into a responsible, organized, and independent person. I always make sure that my treatments are done, even if that means they are during school or sleepovers.
Beyond my condition, you’ll see that I'm a bubbly and mature girl who loves everything about life. I make an effort to have a positive outlook on life every day. I am told that I am an ‘old soul’. I’m friendly and kind, and always put people before myself, especially my family and friends. In my life, my biggest achievements so far have been team captain for my ringette team, school ambassador and winning the award for most dedicated player of the Grunthal Ringette Association.
So if you haven't realized yet, the most important things in my life are my family, friends, school and sports, in that specific order! Because we live in the country outside of a small town, I also like to spend time with my dad outside helping him with the horses.
I look forward to what the future will bring, and one of my biggest dreams is going to Paris*. My future plans include going to college or university, getting a very good job and traveling the world.
*DREAM TRIP UPDATE: As a result of COVID-19 and continued travel restrictions, Jasmine and her family have decided to take a Dream Trip that will be the absolute next best thing to Paris: Montreal, Quebec! Jasmine and her family will be travelling to Quebec at the end of August; and she looks forward to sharing photos and stories from her dream come true with all of the lifters at #D4D3 on September 11th!

At The Dream Factory, our mission is to bring dreams to life for Manitoba kids who are battling life-threatening illnesses.
Our ultimate goal is to create as many opportunities as possible for kids to just be kids, despite the incredibly difficult battles they may be fighting.
Our Dream Kids are under the age of 18, have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, and are able to communicate their dream in some form. We include all immediate family members in the dream experience, and every dream starts with a referral from a member of our community.
Examples of dreams come true safely here at home over the last 12 months have included a LEGO-themed 7th birthday party for Ben, the “best Christmas ever” for Mia, an incredible backyard transformation for Emma, and even a new family puppy for Luke.
Our dream is for a world where there are no sick kids, but until that is possible, we work to ensure that every sick child in Manitoba has the opportunity to have their dream come true.
Your support of Deadlifts for Dreams 3 will directly help to ensure that even more dreams can come true for kids right here in our community fighting some incredibly difficult battles. We can't do it without you!
