Join us for Deep Waters: Navigating Grief Together, an evening in support of The Healing Center.

We'll be gathering at the Tyee Yacht Club on the shores of Lake Union. There will be plenty of delicious food (including vegan and gluten free options) and fun (including a raffle and live auction).

Why is the event called "Deep Waters: Navigating Grief Together"?

Grief can evade language - we don't have a word for the sudden ache of hearing our loved-one's favorite song on the radio, or the unexpected rage that surfaces after watching the next season of a show without them. And we certainly don’t have adequate words to describe the exhausting, complex process of missing what is gone day after day, and through many of life’s milestones.

When words fall short, we turn to metaphor. Again and again, people describe their grief like the ocean.

The currents. Grief ebbs and flows. It can shift without warning, pulling us in unexpected directions. It rarely holds a single shape for long. One moment it's sorrow, the next rage, fear, guilt, longing, or even joy.

The waves. Grief is persistent. It arrives on its own terms. It can't be tamed or controlled. We cannot stop the waves from breaking, but we can learn how to meet them.

The horizon. Grief changes our perspective. In the early days of loss, the future can feel impossibly distant as we struggle to redefine ourselves. With time, grief becomes part of the landscape enduring and ever-present, but not the whole of it.

Our event name borrows from the imagery that so many grievers instinctively reach for when words fail. It reminds us that grief is not something to conquer, but something we learn to navigate.

And navigation is rarely a solitary act. The Healing Center helps grievers find their way when the waters feel too deep to cross alone. Grief changes us. But through support, understanding, and community, we ensure no one has to face that transformation alone.
