This year I’m walking in the Dempsey Challenge and, as always, my walk carries the weight of both heartbreak and hope.
I walk in memory of my beautiful daughter, Anne Penney Pickett, who showed strength and grace even as she fought her hardest battle. I ride in honor of my mother, Diana Parker Penney, whose spirit cancer could never take away. And I ride in gratitude for my sister, Pamela Penney, who faced breast cancer and won, a reminder that hope and healing are possible.
I also ride for my friends, neighbors, and anyone else whose life has been shaken by cancer. Too many chairs are empty, and too many families know this pain. Every mile I walk is for them.
Every dollar raised makes life better for people impacted by cancer by easing the side effects, improving their physical, emotional, social, familial, and functional well-being at any point in their cancer journey - all at no cost to them.
