Thank you for visiting my personal fundraising page for this year's Dempsey Challenge in Honor of my Mother, Mary Mitchell. I will be running the 10k in an effort to raise funds for the Dempsey Center and to continue to show my daugher that cycles of effort and sometimes pain often have rewarding benefits. My mom is currently in one of these cycles and it is a privilege to have her, my biggest fan, cheering me on. I really couldnt ask for more!
My mom was diagnosed with Stage 4B cancer in January of this year. It was an unexpected and heart breaking diagnosis for myself, family and friends. The pain that comes with such a diagnosis cannot be described and I want to thank everyone that has helped us through this process.
I truly believe that people are remembered and joy is earned by the effort you put both into your life and others. My mom is proof of this. The effort/kindness that she puts into her family, friends, and life cannot be matched. With that, she has built a wonderful life that is surrounded by a supportive family and unbelievable circle of caring and thoughtful friends.
I cannot say enough positive things about the New England Cancer Center which also houses the new Dempsey Center. If my mom was diagnosed 10 years ago with what she has now, she most likely would not be with us today. Instead, her cancer has diminished 50-75% in the last 6 months with the help of cutting edge immunotherapy drugs. Since the start of her treatment, she has only gotten better. We are truly blessed at this time.
The Dempsey Challenge is the premiere fundraising event for the Dempsey Center, a nonprofit founded by actor Patrick Dempsey. The Dempsey Center makes life better for people impacted by cancer by easing the side effects of cancer by improving their physical, emotional, social, familial, and functional well-being at any point in their cancer journey--all at no cost.

If a donation is not possible, I would like to challenge you to call someone or hug someone that has been affected by cancer or any other illness. The best support is putting in the effort to make someone feel noticed, cared for, and supported which will hopefully put a smile on their face. My mom has put this effort into 100's of people, that she both knows and doesn't, even before her diagnosis. She is a true champion/angel!
