This will be my 7th year riding for this worthy cause. I'm raising money for the Dempsey Center, a Maine-based nonprofit organization with locations in Lewiston and South Portland, which provides cancer programs and services for Maine residents and beyond. I ride in memory of my sister that died at a young age of 21 to acute promyelocytic leukemia. I also ride in support of all others that have been touched by cancer personally or within their family, friends, or community circle.  

I understand!  Personally, this coming July I am 6 years free of melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer. I have regular skin check ups, due to family history. I was fortunate to have it removed quickly, and I remain hopeful and positive. My father had melanoma and esophageal cancer. My mother had thyroid cancer. I have a not so good family history, so I do everything in my power to stay healthy ~ like cycling. 

Cancer touches everyone in one way or another. Thanks to events like the Dempsey Challenge we are all reminded that the human spirit is stronger than the challenges it faces, and together we are even stronger!

The Dempsey Center makes life better for people managing the impact of cancer by easing the side effects of cancer through complementary therapies, counseling and other support services for individuals and families.
