The Dempsey Center was an important part of my journey with cancer.

Through my diagnosis and treatment, they were there for me providing different opportunities to connect and heal during that frightening and uncertain time.  I made connections with those facing similar diagnoses, treatments and fears, through a support group, and was also able to find love and connection to my body again in a peaceful and healing way, with the help of acupuncture and massage therapies. At a time when I felt the most alone in my life, it was a place where I felt understood and seen.

Today, I am a proud team member of the Dempsey Center staff managing our healthcare hospitality home, Clayton’s House, a comfortable and welcoming place where patients and care partners can stay while traveling to receive cancer treatment, at no cost to the patient or care partner. It is a much-needed service for those who without it may not be able to access their cancer treatment.  Just like all the incredible services and programs of the Dempsey Center, we never charge for any services that we provide for people impacted by cancer; classes on nutrition, movement & fitness, support groups, counseling, complementary therapies such as massage, acupuncture and Reiki, wigs and fittings, and so many more wellness offerings. Our staff consists of oncology certified professionals in their fields, and our programs are evidence based.

But we can’t do it without support from caring people like you.  As a non-profit organization that provides services to people throughout the state of Maine, New England, and other parts of the country, the Dempsey Center must raise funds through donations for all its’ programs and services.  Dempsey Challenge is our biggest fundraiser of year where thousands of people come together, in Lewiston Maine, to celebrate community, compassion and commitment to the health and well-being of those we love and to raise the funds needed to keep providing these vital services.

It’s likely that everyone has been impacted by cancer, if not yourself or a close relative, then a teacher, co-worker, friend or neighbor.  The Dempsey Center is here for them. No matter where they live. If you know of someone, please refer them to us.
