For those of you that know me, you know this year my birthday in May was forever changed. For those of you that don't please allow me to share this with you, as I ask for your support during this years Dempsey Challenge. Nearly four months ago, one of my closest and dearest elders and one of my best friends in this life was diagnosed with non-small lung cancer. This diagnosis came after a brain surgery to remove a tumor that had already metastasized from the cancer. This journey has been life changing, and anything but easy. It surely has come with many ups and downs. Doreen has a strength within that is a force to be reckoned with, and she sure doesn't let anything knock her down. As she trudges forward on this life changing journey, enduring treatment; she doesn't do so without being surrounded by love, laughter, keeping a smile on her face, and continuing to have an enormous drive to stay teaching special education-- as children light up her world.
