My name is Mariví and this is my beautiful family at a recent Spartan race.
WE DO HARD THINGS.
I say this a lot, and I run a bit, and I do obstacle course races, to remind myself that I can handle difficult things. 'Cuz, you know what, parenting is HARD. Like many people, I had no idea what I was getting into when that first tiny baby arrived. I've needed SO. MUCH. HELP.
More times that I care to admit, I've given up, fallen victim to despair and hopelessness, and sought help.
And help has come, in droves -- be it a compassionate look, a kind word, a beautiful example of a loving exchange between a fellow parent and child, a cooked meal, a welcoming community, wise counsel, an encouraging conversation, financial assistance, caretaking, therapy, coaching.
I'm fortunate to have had so much support, and that help for neuro-typical children is plentiful.
"It takes a village to raise a child." Have you heard this phrase before? The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism creates that village for neurodivergent kids and their families.
Families that need specialized help.
I'm grateful that this organization is doing what they do to support them on a beautiful and tremendously difficult parenting journey.
