In March 2015, I heard the news that no first time mother wants to hear. At 24 weeks pregnant, I discovered my daughter had multiple heart defects that required surgery. She had her first surgery at three days old. Eight years later, she is thriving! She still needs a pulmonary valve replacement. But, thanks to the research funded by charities like the Children's Heart Foundation, her valve replacement may be done in a cath lab and not require open heart surgery. I run to fund research for kids like my daughter.
