Way back in 2014... wow really 10 years ago? My family's life got rocked by news that my Father-in-Law, Billy, had a brain tumor. His initial prognosis was not good, he was given 3-9 months to live. However, he had access to an incredible team of doctors and Walter Reed Medical. Through the use of a database, access to trials, and top of the line medical facility, he lived 3 and half years with his diagnosis.
That was 10 years ago, when such a thing didn't really exist for pediatric patients. This foundation was in its infancy, just getting going. However, today parents are hearing better news, because this foundation has stepped in and filled a need. The Children Brain Tumor Network has connected Pediatric Oncologist around the world so they can provide better targeted care for their patients by comparing previous cases to their patient and make better decisions. Funding in trials and research has meant more patients are being reached with less travel because more hospitals can provide the same level of care, that in the past, would have been only available to locations that are well funded.
I believe in this foundation because I know that the work they do does good. That it has an impact that is positive.
