Chandler isn’t just a dog — he’s a bridge between people, a comfort in hard moments, and a daily reminder of kindness.

My name is Emily Moen, and I’m the handler for Chandler, a facility dog who works alongside me at Cavelero Mid High School in Lake Stevens, WA. I get to see firsthand the incredible impact Chandler has each and every day. He provides comfort and emotional support to students, helps ease anxiety before big tests, offers a calming presence during difficult conversations, and brings people together in ways that create a stronger, more caring school community. For staff, he’s a reminder to pause and breathe on busy days. For our broader community, he’s a symbol of kindness, connection, and unconditional acceptance.

Canine Companions places service dogs with adults, children, and veterans with disabilities, and also places facility dogs (like Chandler) in settings such as schools, hospitals, and courtrooms — where they can provide critical emotional support to many people every day. All of these dogs are provided completely free of charge.

The transformation these dogs bring is remarkable: greater independence, more confidence, and a profound boost in social and emotional well-being.
