With service dog Locke by my side, I have gained a greater independence. I have cerebral palsy resulting from a birth complication. Locke helps me live a full life through love and comfort. He retrieves things I drop and gives them back to me in my wheelchair. He pushes drawers shut for me. He can press automatic door opener buttons for me as well. He's been a tremendous help when I am anxious or need calming and he even helps me sleep. I am deeply grateful to every single volunteer, kennel tech, vet, breeder, puppy raiser, puppy trainer, dorm caretaker, instructor, manager, and administrator. Canine Companions expertly provides free service dogs to those people living with disabilities who apply.
Leading up to DogFest Washington DC 2024 - 11th Annual, I am raising money to support the Canine Companions mission. The impact these dogs have on the lives of people with disabilities is incredible.
