For my birthday this year, I am asking those who would like to give me a gift to instead donate to the Medical Transport project. The goal is to purchase a car for the rural medical outpatient clinic of Darbas in Armenia for transporting patients, medicines, and equipment.
Dr. Anush is the sole doctor providing medical care to 1,740 rural residents in Armenia’s Syuniq region. At just 30 years old, she left a comfortable life in Yerevan to serve villages like Darbas, which previously had no resident doctor. Despite many challenges, she has become a lifeline for the community.
With support from the Fund for Armenian Relief, efforts have been made to improve conditions, including installing a heating system in the clinic in 2022. However, transportation remains a major obstacle. Dr. Anush and her team serve multiple villages—Darbas, Gitagh, Lor, Shenatagh, Ltsen, and Shamb—but without a clinic vehicle, she must rely on hitching rides to reach patients. Treacherous terrain and harsh weather make travel even more difficult, limiting crucial health services such as consultations, awareness programs, and early disease detection.
A reliable all-terrain vehicle would transform healthcare access for these villages, allowing Dr. Anush to reach patients more consistently, improve preventative care, and ultimately reduce illness and mortality in the region.
