While today I am celebrating my birthday, I find myself also reflecting on the birth of one of my sisters. Since she has Down syndrome, our family was propelled into communities of support for people with developmental disabilities. This meant that from the time I was six years old, I was surrounded by other children with Down syndrome, CP, MS, and autism spectrum disorders, among others. The best part about it was that this was my normal.
This initiative speaks to my heart, considering my experiences with my sister and having seen the Sevan Children’s Rehabilitation Center in person. (I took the photographs above.) The superstar team of specialists brings light and hope into the lives of the children and families they serve.
