Why I'm Running for the Flutie Foundation
As I prepare to turn 60 in February 2023, I think I have one more marathon in me. As both the father of a son with autism and a college classmate of Doug Flutie, I can’t think of a more purposeful way to run my final marathon than as a member of Dougie’s Team in the 2023 Boston Marathon, raising funds for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.
With the support of family and friends, as well as teachers, coaches and school administrators, my wife and I have been very fortunate in being able to provide our son, Cal, with the resources he needs to live a happy, healthy and productive life. Not every family with one or more members on the autism spectrum is so fortunate, due either to the financial strains autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can create or the severity of a family member’s neurodevelopmental disorder or both. The Flutie Foundation supports families in tackling those challenges and in helping individuals with ASD live life to the fullest.
Please support me in my efforts to support the Flutie Foundation. I’ve set the ambitious goal of raising $15,000, with multiple mandatory minimum totals to reach along the way. Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated. Not only will you be supporting a great cause and organization, you’ll also be providing me with the kind of motivational boost that is invaluable when training during a New England winter to run Boston in the spring.
Thank you!

2023 Boston Marathon Recap
MSTCA Adversity Award
In 2017, Cal received the Adversity Award from the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association, having overcome challenges to run throughout high school as a member of Wakefield High's champion cross country and track and field programs. His success would not have been possible without the efforts of Wakefield coach Perry Pappas, winner of multiple coach of the year awards.
Cleveland Half Marathon
In 2019, Cal and I completed the Cleveland Half Marathon during a trip that included a trip to a destination he had long wanted to visit: the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
College Graduation
This didn't seem likely when Cal was diagnosed at Age 2 as having an autism spectrum disorder, but in 2022, he earned his degree in film studies from Keene State College.
