About me!

Hey Everyone,

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

I will be running the 2023 Boston Marathon to support the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism!  I started running to improve my fitness a few years ago and have grown to love the miles I put in on the roads of my hometown of Westerly, RI every week.  I have run three half-marathons in the last year, and I am excited by the challenge of running in the Boston Marathon and I am honored to run for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism and raise funds for a very worthy cause!

The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism offers a wide range of activities and programming to support individuals and families affected with autism. All money donated to the foundation will go directly towards supporting families struggling with the additional costs of caring for a loved one with autism, community partnerships and grants, and a wide variety of additional programs.

Over its 21-year history, the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism has distributed over $14 million to schools and organizations who provide clinical therapies, respite services, recreational programs, social skills training, job supports and more for people affected by autism. The Flutie Foundation also provides education technology tools, adaptive camp scholarships, safety equipment, and direct family support through its special programs. The Flutie Foundation’s newest initiative, Flutie Spectrum Enterprises, will help create businesses to employ adults with autism.

I ask for your financial support of this very worthy cause, either as an individual or as a corporate sponsor. Your help would be appreciated by the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, and in turn to so many families that they help.

Thousands of companies match donations made by employees to a range of nonprofit causes through corporate matching gift programs.  Please find out if your employer has the employer's donation matching program. You can use this link to see if your company matches donations.

Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please reach out.

Thank you,

Jim Murphy

Why I'm Running the Boston Marathon!

I learned about the Flutie Foundation team through the Boston Marathon website's Charity Teams page.  I was interested in running in the 2023 Boston Marathon and wanted to learn more about the different charities that use this event as an important fund raising event.  I found myself interested in the Flutie Foundation and their work to help people and families impacted by Autism.

My initial attraction to the Flutie Foundation was the connection with Doug Flutie.  I am a lifelong football fan and can still remember the extraordinary ending to the BC-Miami game from many years ago.  Reading more about the work of the Flutie Foundation, I connected with their purpose to assist individuals and families impacted by autism.  I have personal experience with autism and understand the need to assist these individuals and families with programs to help the autistic find their path for education and work opportunities.  These opportunities are critical in helping to improve the quality of life for these individuals and their families.  Being a charity runner for the Flutie Foundation would be an opportunity to raise funds for this worthy cause and make a positive impact.
