Tell your donors who you are and why you are running!
My 2.5 year old son Austin was diagnosed with ASD in May 2021. We immediately reached out to the Doug Flutie Foundation for Autism and instantly found home. As a Mom, I felt a type of support I can't quite explain and resources that helped me learn so much about Autism in such a quick time.
Although getting a diagnosis was heart breaking, it opened the door to so many resources for him including an abundance of therapies such as ABA therapy, OT, speech, etc. All of these help Austin be the best version of himself and he greets every day with a huge smile and the most optimism. Even though things may be different for him, Austin is proving to be the most resillient, determined, and strong little guy.
I decided to run the Disney Marathon 10 K race to show Austin that he never "walks" alone and challenge my self to step outside my comfort zone- something he does every day! I am not a runner and quite frankly, if you catch me running you should run too! But I am hoping to find the inspiration through Austin and teach him "If Mom can't do it for you, Mom will do it with you."
