Hello, my name is Carolyn! During the daytime, I work as a Higher Education professional who runs my campus' LGBTQIA+ Resource Center. On evenings and weekends, I practice self-care by training for my first 10k!
Why I'm running
Help Me Help Others!
The Doug Flutie Jr Foundation provides programs and activities that improve the quality of everyday life for people and families impacted by autism. They aim to provide a path for education and/or employment during the day; opportunities for physical and social activity outside of work/school; and the tools to be safe, supported, and informed at all times.
As someone who has grown up with a brother who was diagnosed with autism as a young child, I have seen first-hand the benefits and education, resources, and support made for him and for our whole family. The Doug Flutie Jr Foundation provides grants directly to families and to community organizations to provide services and supports that benefit people with autism. Although many of you may be familiar with Doug Flutie, retired NFL quarterback, you may not know that his son, Doug Flutie Jr, was diagnosed with a rare form of autism at age three and the Fluties could not find resources to help them support their son. So they created the Doug Flutie Jr Foundation to help other people and families impacted by autism.
I am honored to be able to challenge myself (this is my first 10k!) and raise money to benefit people with autism and their families. Any amount that you can donate to help me reach my goal, even if its "just" your morning coffee money, will be greatly appreciated!
