Opening of the Bay Weekend
What does your contribution to Opening of the Bay support?
The mission of DBMS is to connect people of all ages, abilities and means to Duxbury Bay through educational and recreational programs that stimulate individual growth and an enduring love and appreciation of the sea.
The Duxbury Bay Maritime School holds the Opening of the Bay annually as an opportunity to engage the community around the mission of DBMS and to fundraise for our programs. Some of the programs that your donations will help support are pictured and listed further down the page. This year, we intend to host 3,000 attendees over the event weekend.
We are looking forward to seeing you all at Opening of the Bay weekend! This year's event will welcome back many of our community favorites, as well as bringing in new and exciting vendors and activities.
- The Dockside Gala ($250/ticket), will be held on the waterfront under a clear top tent, and dinner will be provided by The Catered Affair, with Island Creek Oysters providing the Raw Bar. This year's live entertainment will begin with the Duke's of Windsor, then throughout the evening is fan favorite local band The Waves!
- The Dockside Party ($125/ticket), beginning at 8 pm, keeps the evening rolling with an open bar, snacks and more live music.
- Family Day is sure to be another wonderful day on campus, with boat rides, face painting, arts & crafts, a dunk tank and more! New this year will be food trucks on site so you can select how to fuel yourself throughout the day!
You won't want to miss this year's events. We are so appreciative of your support for this fundraiser, which is critical to uphold our mission of providing access to Duxbury Bay for all!

Scholarships
A needs-based scholarship program has been in place at DBMS since its inception in 1997, with the first year of classes in Summer of 1998. This ongoing initiative is an important part of DBMS because this financial aid literally opens the wonders of Duxbury Bay to children who otherwise may miss out on these experiences. Furthermore, DBMS provides direct and indirect financial support annually to over 1200 youth and teens through fundraising.
Maritime Adventures
Beginning in 2000, DBMS has collaborated with Crossroads for Kids to provide a tuition free on-the-water program for at-risk, urban youth. Participating in maritime activities allows campers to learn new skills as well as teach them how important teamwork and a positive attitude are in accomplishing goals- on and off the water.
ACCESSAIL
ACCESSAIL is an educational and recreational sailing program specifically geared for those who live with varying physical and/or cognitive abilities. Students have the opportunity to bond with the natural environment and gain a sense of freedom while having fun. Our program has had students with Autism, Down Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Paraplegia, Quadriplegia, and a variety of other challenges.
Maritime Programs for Veterans
Open to current and former service members, these programs allow our military community to connect with Duxbury Bay. Our current programs include rowing and sailing. These tuition-free courses are great opportunities for our service men and women to exercise and socialize in a controlled environment alongside one another.
