Hey everyone! On behalf on my youngest son, Charlie, I am excited and profoundly honored to be invited to run in this year’s Doug Flutie Autism Half Marathon at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. As many of you know, Charlie was diagnosed with Autism at a very early age and I have since been able to witness first hand both the challenges, yet amazing accomplishments he has faced in his journey.
Charlie sees and interacts within the world around him differently than you and I. His sensory behaviors and limited ability to verbally express himself present unique challenges for both him and my family. While we may not be able to enjoy many activities that most families can, we are so fortunate to involved with a local charity, Raising Harts, who is committed to providing inclusive events and support services for children and families who have been impacted by Autism. We have been able to see, firsthand, the difference this charity has made within our community (inclusion events, social skill progression, educational and support groups for parents and siblings, etc.). Being able to run this half marathon to help support children similar to Charlie is deeply personal to me – a small step to help local families impacted by Autism navigate and find solace in developing resources to help their children. We will never stop trying to help Charlie overcome his challenges, and I invite you to join me in helping others in this fight.
I aim to raise $5,000 to help support Raising Harts and others families like mine. All donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar by me and my family.
