My first memory of Girl Scouts is as a 5 year old painting 100 gallon drums for a community service project. Our troop rolled those drums all over town setting up community garbage cans. Over 20 years later, those cans are still there!
Evidence of my old troop is all over my hometown from those garbage cans, spray painted stencils on street drains and even days offically named after Gold Award earners.
More importantly than the marks we left on my hometown, Girl Scouts has also left it's mark on me. My Girl Scout leader taught me so many things lifelong lessons... that words have meaning and should be used intentionally; to not just be nice but kind; to embrace our differences. Girl Scout camp taught me to feel at home in the woods; be a compassionate leader; grit; gratitude; willpower.
Girl Scouts has given me, our communities and the world so much. Every girl deserves to have these sorts of experiences and opportunites to grow. Your support will help thousands of girls across Alaska learn life skills and make a difference in their communities.
