Road to New York
Hi friends and family! I'm so excited to share that on November 5th, I will be running the 2023 New York City Marathon with The Children's Heart Foundation.
Why I Run
As many of you know, I was born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect that is marked by a combination of four heart abnormalities affecting the structure and blood flow of the heart. At six months old, I was blessed to undergo a successful full heart repair (that scar doesn't lie!) at NYU Langone in New York. I am forever grateful for my incredible surgeon and team of doctors who followed me throughout my childhood and into adulthood, providing me with exceptional care. I am blessed to have a wonderful family who navigated this journey for me, and now with me. I cannot think of a better way to raise awareness for something I hold so close to my heart, in the city that provided me with the chance to live a full, happy and healthy life almost 23 years ago.
The Children's Heart Foundation funds the most promising research to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of CHD. Despite significant advancements in the treatment of congenital heart disease, there remains substantial research that needs to be addressed regarding the developmental, transitional, and lifelong care needs of CHD patients who are living longer lives than ever before.
As a NICU nurse, I continue to see firsthand how patients and their families’ lives are transformed by a CHD diagnosis. I am running the New York City marathon in remembrance of the heart warriors I have lost as a nurse, in support of those still fighting, and with the hope that my future patients will one day not have to embark on this journey.
