Congenital Heart Defects are America's most common birth defect, affecting nearly 40,000 babies each year.  This equates to 1 child every 15 minutes, or 1 in 100 babies.

On November 08, 2016, our son, Carter Fidel Williams was born with a congenital heart defect (CHD) -Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), Pulmonary Atresia (PA) and Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and underwent his first surgery to begin the process to repair his heart when he was 6 days old.  Multiple surgeries, doctor visits, and specialists followed, with complications in what felt like every step. Although a vast amount of our experience resulted in the worst-case scenarios, we are extremely grateful to have Carter here with us.  

Carter is 8 years old and striving each day!  He is 100% reliable on a pacemaker, a small device that was placed in his abdomen to help control his abnormal heart rhythms.  Thankfully, it does not stop him from being the fireball toddler that he is every day.  If it weren’t for the advances of congenital heart research, Carter’s quality of life would look much different.  We are thankful for every single moment that we are BLESSED to have with Carter as we know that there were many times that his chance of survival was bleak.  Sharing our story with others has been so rewarding.  We represent the power of prayer, hope and GOD’s love. 

This year, I am proud to partner with the Children’s Heart Foundation as I train for the NYC Marathon and raise money for CRITICAL RESEARCH in pediatric congenital heart defects.  WE ARE CARTER’S CHAMPIONS and I’m fundraising for every heart warrior born with an EXCEPTIONAL heart.
