Five years ago I wrote you this,
“When I speak, I share stories from people I’ve met along my journey. These people, primarily those living with dementia, have taught me to enjoy the moment, be authentic, love with my whole heart, not hold a grudge, don’t worry about the small stuff, enjoy the memories I have, and give lots of hugs. They have taught me how to better communicate and how to not take life too seriously,”
That was for my 10th work anniversary. And in a flash, I’m now celebrating 15 years.
In the last 5 years, I’ve become a caregiver myself. I’ve learned new lessons and shared new stories - personal stories about my family and experiences. I’ve been supported in new ways and truly lived the expression, “No matter what you know as a professional, it’s different when it’s your own family.”
And through it all, daily, I am reminded that no matter if you call yourself a caregiver, a care partner, a neighbor, friend or colleague, we all need a support network, continuing education, and ways to care for ourselves in order to be there for others.
So today I am asking you to give. It’s not what I usually do, not my area of strength, but it is more important than ever.
If Dementia Alliance of North Carolina has ever helped you, have ever been concerned about someone living with brain changes, or ever thought “We should be able to do more” please consider donating.
$15 for 15 years. $15 to raise $5000 to help 350 people access our education programs. If 334 of you give only $15 we can reach those who feel isolated, overwhelmed and unsupported. And if half of those 334 gave $25 we could double the number of people reached.
Five years ago I asked you to do something healthy for your brain and to give what you could. In that time the number of people living with brain change causing dementia has increased to unimaginable numbers. And while there are a large number of organizations and resources to help, there is never enough. Even with all of our combined efforts, the majority of families don’t have the help they need. Today, I ask you to give.
Here's how you can help:
- Donate: Contribute whatever you can. No amount is too small!
- Spread the Word: Share my fundraising page with your friends, family, and social networks. Let’s spread awareness so we can raise more!
Thank you for standing by me in this effort. Your support means the world to me!
