70% of the funds raised by Columbus this year will go towards Noor Islamic Cultural Center's goal of becoming the second MUHSEN certified mosque in Ohio. They will use the funds raised to make the necessary adjustments to their structure and programming to provide excellent accomodations for Muslims with special needs in our community. This includes (but is not limited to) ramp/elevator accessiblity, disability awareness events in the community, a needs assessment, a special needs facilitator for the masjid, braille Qurans, wudu/salah accessibility, and khutbahs on disability awareness multiple times a year.
30% of the funds raised by Columbus this year will go to IMANA Medical Relief for their Save a Smile Project. Physicians travel to underserved countries to perform life changing cleft lip and palate surgeries. Children suffering from cleft lip and cleft palates often have problems with feeding and talking. They also might have ear infections, hearing loss, and problems with their teeth. If they attend school they are often teased by their peers, forcing them to hide in their homes in isolation and shame. Most children suffering from clefts never finish school, making it extremely difficult to find gainful employment as they get older, leaving these children and their families in a lifetime of social and economic poverty.
