On July 14, 2003 Emma was 2 weeks old when she was diagnosed with 21 brain tumors, 6 heart tumors, 1 on each kidney, 1 in her right eye and numerous ones on her skin. We found out Emma has a condition called Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC), it causes tumors to grow on all her major organs. Emma’s brain tumors cause her to have daily seizures. She had her first tumor removed at 2 months old, second one removed at 5 1/2 months old following this surgery she developed hydrocephalus, she had a shunt placed she has had 27 revisions since. When she was 2 years old she had a complete left hemishperectomy to try and stop the seizures. Chemo and radiation don’t help her type of tumors. There is no cure for TSC. Emma is on a drug that suppresses her tumors from growing while she is on the med but in return it compromises her immune system. She receives infusions 2 times a month to boost her immune system to keep her as healthy as possible. She has many deficits, but she is the happiest and most loving little girl you will ever meet. A huge thank you to Jason’s Friends for all they have done for us throughout the years!
We try to help out this wonderful organization as much as one family possibly can so we are asking for your help and support to Team Emma. Jason’s Friends contacted us when Emma was just a few weeks old after we had received an awful diagnosis, we really didn’t know how this time in our lives was going to be affordable. With their help and loving support we were able to focus on Emma and the time we had to spend in the hospital with her. Emma and I spent many months in the hospital, Nathan and Marissa made weekly trips to visit us in the hospital. We made many trips from Casper to Denver Children’s and many trips from Casper to Cincinnati Children’s to see a specialist. Over the years Jason’s Friends has helped up with food costs while in the hospital those costs add up, they have helped us with our travels expenses for our trips this includes fuel, food, hotel room, and airline tickets. They don’t help with the medical bills but they help with your everyday living expenses and travel expenses. They are a blessing and our family is so thankful for their support over the years!
