Why I am supporting Young Audiences Arts for Learning

I want to be sure that all children can experience the arts, by seeing and working with professional artists, connecting with their joy and wonder. Budgets for arts education are limited, and childrens’ creativity and joy should not be shortchanged.  Through our fundraising last year, YA provided performances, artist residencies and family programs to 80,000 students in schools that were not able to pay for the programs.

Visit www.yanjep.org to find out more about YA’s work.

  1. A moment of understanding that positively affects one’s outlook on life and learning
  2. Social connections formed through new intercultural understanding
  3. A deepened connection to one’s own creativity
  4. Newfound confidence that comes from a teaching artist recognizing a person’s unique contributions

My Arts Impact Victory

A student named Brianna sent this letter to YA storyteller David Gonzalez:

“I like your story’s. I like the part when the Lion became frends with the mouse and when the hunter cach the Lion in the net and the mouse got him out of the net. Love, Brianna. Thank you David Gonzalez. Can you come again?”

In the letter Brianna also illustrated the story, and drew a very big red heart. I see two victories here. Brianna recalled the storyline and could retell it in writing and in pictures. And she was moved by the power of storytelling.
