I'm on a mission to Bois Negresse, Haiti!
With Future Forward for Haiti's Gallatin Valley Packathon
Last fall I was asked last minute to fill in as a volunteer packer without knowing anything about a packathon and very little about Haiti. Frankly, I just showed up with a soggy attitude (and face mask). Another need in our world? I found myself buried under the news and more often than not, paralyzed in compassionate thoughts and opinions with little action. As the doors opened to the event, so did my heart.
As I worked together with other concerned people in our community, I became a small part of something with real impact and solutions. Turns out, I “needed” to pack lunches that evening. More importantly, I learned how so many beautiful school children need the lunches our community packs to help support their health, growth, and learning so that someday they too can help restore and heal Haiti.
Will you consider joining the efforts of the Gallatin Valley Packathon? Let’s use some of our compassion, opinions, and resources to work together, renew our hope, and help school children who need some lunch to someday be able to do the same.
Let me tell you a few things about Haiti:
Only 60% of adults can read at a 6th grade level.
Their government does not provide school to rural communities.
The average income is $350 per year.
Some children cannot count of even one meal a day.
With hundreds of other volunteers, I will help assemble vitamin fortified lunches of rice, beans, and dehydrated vegetables to send for students at the Light and Peace School in Bois Negresse (trans. Blackwood). We will partner with Hope Lutheran Church (2152 West Graf Street, Bozeman, MT) and pack in their larger gym this year for five 90 minute sessions;
- Raise $27,000 for packing ingredients
- Provide lunches for 250 students for the entire 2021-22 school year.
Pack at least 240 meals, and
Raise at least $5000 to actually finance enough school lunches for almost 50 children for the school year!
Can you help me? The children who will receive these meals cannot count on even one meal a day at home. How can they learn if they don't eat? How can they improve their lives if they don't learn? Please Donate Now to help the Gallatin Valley Packathon meet the goal to feed 250 school children in Haiti this school year. We can do something that is life-giving together.
