I'm on a mission to Bois Negresse, Haiti!
With Future Forward for Haiti's Gallatin Valley Packathon
Although the distance is far between Gallatin Valley and Haiti, the school children of Bois Negresse, Haiti, are still our neighbors. Jump on board for the Gallatin Valley Packathon!
Having taught high school English for over 30 years, I know how important nutrition is for learning. Seeing student walking in to school with a Mountain Dew and a doughnut was not what I called a nourishing breakfast or lunch; however, they have the option to receive reduced or free breakfasts and lunches. The children of Haiti do not have those options.
To get out of poverty, children need an education. However, students with little to no nourishment can't concentrate at the learning tasks at hand when their stomachs scream out with hunger. Students, no matter where they live, need to eat to learn. When they know they will get a nutritious meal, they are more likely to attend school.
Underdeveloped countries face even more difficulties in feeding their populations. These countries do not necessarily have the means nor the food itself to distribute to the folks throughout the country. And now Haiti has also just had another massive earthquake to add to their ever growing problems. If the young are the future of any country, feeding them is a necessity.
Volunteering at our local food bank, I have seen how giving our community is to those who are in need of food. However, the students of Light and Peace School in Boris Negresse do not have a local food bank, but we can be that food bank for them. With your support and help, we can provide them with the needed 75,000 fortified lunches of rice, beans, dehydrated vegetables, and vitamins.
Please support these school children by supporting Future Forward for Haiti's Gallatin Valley Packathon for Haiti. Donate now and if possible sign up for one of the five lunch packing sessions.
Future Forward needs to raise $27,000 for the lunch ingredients of rice, beans, powdered vitamins, and dried veggies and shipping those individually packed lunches from Bozeman, MT to Boris Negresse, Haiti. Help be part of their food bank to provide lunches for 250 students for the entire 2021-22 school year.
