Lisa's Fight Against Breast Cancer While Bringing Awareness

Joining the hundreds and hundreds of individuals in the pink brigade to bring awareness of how breast cancer affects patients, survivors and their loved ones.

Hello Everyone, Lisa here.

Thank you for stopping by and checking out my personal page.  I have previously participated in the last 2 Gloria Gemma's Flames of Hope Run/Walk Series 5K in remembrance of my grandmother, who past away from breast cancer when I was 9 years old, and for loved ones and friends, who have survived or lost their battle with any kind of cancer.

Breast cancer affects tens of thousands of individuals each year.  No breast or any sort of cancer is the same.  Patients and survivors have different journeys based on cancer stage and decisions made upon surgeries and treatment.  It is a very emotional and exhausting journey not only for patients and surviors but for their loved ones.  Any one who has been directly or indirectly touched by cancer are affected.

This year is rather different and personal for me.  As many of you already know, on August 1st, 2017, I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma breast cancer.  After weeks and weeks of digesting the news of the diagnosis and researching a lot of information on breast cancer; I have decided enough is enough.  Breast cancer will not define me or break my family's or my spirit.  I will celebrate life to its fullness through positivity and humor. through good times and not so great times.

On October 1st of this year, I plan to walk/jog/sprint in this year's Gloria Gemma Flames of Hope Run/Walk Series 5K, regardless of when my surgery is scheduled.  Not only will I be doing this for myself, but will continue in remembrance of my loved ones, friends and for those who are currently going through any sort of cancer.  You are not alone.

I always enjoy company.  If you have ever been interested in participating in 5K but were nervous about trying; this Run/Walk is definitely for you!  It's family friendly, you get to wear pink and are able to run/walk in the streets of Providence in the crisp Fall weather.  Come join Ben's and mine's team; bring a friend or loved ones-the more the merrier!   Have some laughs, celebrate life, remember a loved one or friend.

Help by donating to the Gloria Gemma Foundation to have them continue to support other local RI patients, survivors and loved ones, educate and bring awareness to RI and MA.  It takes a village.

My goal for this year is to wear a pink Wonder Woman cape and flutter my way through the finish line.  Next year is going to be a different ball park; I plan to get my strength back and beat my personal best running time.  My goal is to change my "cancer patient" label to "Survivor".  As mentioned above breast cancer will never define who I am, I will beat this.  It's on!

Hope to see you there, in the meantime, WE GOT THIS!!
