March 27, 2017 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. One of my friends summed it up perfectly when she said, "Oh crap Sue!". Receiving that phone call was the single biggest "Oh crap" moment of my life.
I was very lucky, the tumor was small. I had a lumpectomy in April and had 6 weeks of radiation June/July. Even though this was an "Oh crap" moment, things are now going well and with October being Breast Cancer awareness month, I wanted to spread the awareness.
It is so important to get mammograms regularly! We all have so many things going on in our lives. With work and kids it is so easy to put off scheduling mammograms because you're busy. PLEASE DON'T! My tumor was found on a mammogram, there were no other symptoms. I feel very fortunate that I made that appointment and kept it! It may seem inconvenient, but in the long run, that hour of inconvenience is worth it.
