Our team, BethsWings, will once again be walking in the Gloria Gemma Flames of Hope 5K to end breast cancer this year. BethsWings is a team of walkers who come together each year to honor the memory of Beth Hershenson. Beth lost her six year battle with breast cancer on January 12, 2012. Beth was not only my mother but my best friend.

Without a doubt, my mother was the strongest, bravest, most loving women I have ever know. She endured a long, tough battle in order to spend a few more precious years with her family and friends. Mom never complained, she never wanted to be pitied and she never wanted to be, or look, anything but her best. I will never forget how she was the only one walking into radiation with bedazzled pants, her wig in braids and perfectly manicured nails. Some of my best and worst memories are held within the 6 years my mother struggled to beat cancer. Mom lived life to the fullest in those years. She swam with dolphins, traveled to Nashville, rode on a motorcycle and spent a week vacationing at the beach after beating the odds when her doctors said she wouldn't make it through the weekend.

BethsWings will continue to walk, continue to support, and continue to fight until no one else has to experience the pain of losing a mother, daughter, sister, or friend to breast cancer.
