I am part of this organization called GIFT (Gifting Initiative for Teens), where I am a part of a Jewish teen philanthropy board. Over the course of the year, we fundraise for a cause we decide, then assess and tour organizations that have put in proposals for grants. This year, we decided to fund the issue of substance abuse, which is both a national, and now local issue. My classmate, Jasper Toms, overdosed and died on Fentanyl 6 months ago. A number of other Seattle students around the city overdosed around this time, which convinced us that we could not stand idly by.

I understand substance abuse is not the first cause on everyone’s mind right now, but I assure you the same people who are struggling to find food and are most affected by the pandemic, are too the ones who would greatly benefit from donations to organizations fighting to help them overcome their substance abuse issues. Now is a time of incredible need.

While any donation to my page will contribute to my personal fundraising goal, all the money raised by my cohort will be combined and will go to supporting the organization we choose at the end of the fundraising period. I assure you all of these organizations would greatly benefit fromyour contribution, as well as make a great difference in the community!
