I was born and raised in South Seattle and developed a fierce pride of my community. I spent a lot of time in Beacon Hill, the International District, and spent my summers in South King County for a swim league. My first internship was with Refugee Women’s Alliance where I grew close to the East African community in Rainier Valley, and around the same time I started to grow more curious about my own upbringing and identity as part of a immigrant family. After studying Politics and dipping my toes in advocacy in college, I joined OneAmerica as their youth organizer.
OneAmerica has given me the gift to re-connect and grow my community in a powerful way. I have been at OneAmerica for a year and a half and in that time I have met incredible and inspiring people who have taught me valuable lessons about power-building, community, identity, and self-care. They have seen me, invested in me, and cared about me. The best part of my job is that I get to be that person for the youth that I work with. And together, we are pushing for policies that represent our needs and our communities, we form safe spaces where we can all be authentic and unapologetic, and we support people who represent us in office, or kick. them. out.
OneAmerica is one of many beautiful organizations to support during this time if you are able to do so. And if you aren’t in a financial place to give but want to support immigrants and refugees, DM me!
Thanks for all the love and support - I am filled with awe and gratitude. Be well.
