Thank you for choosing to support OneAmerica and our advocacy on behalf of immigrants and refugees!
My story is not unlike countless other first generation immigrants. My mom chose to leave her family, friends, and a career as a teacher to provide me with more opportunities in America. She sacrificed everything so that I could have a better chance to succeed. Our journey was far from easy. English was her second language, my parents got divorced just a few short years after arriving in Washington, and she was diagnosed with cancer when I was in high school.
So many things in life that we take for granted and navigate with ease are and can be a barrier for immigrants and refugees. Often times, they rely on their children for translation services in school and healthcare settings, have trouble obtaining housing and employment, and accessing services.
During this global pandemic, our immigrant communities have shown that they are absolutely essential. We would not have food on our tables without hard working farmworkers who are risking their heath and safety so that many of us can stay home.
OneAmerica advocates for immigrants in our community to make them feel welcome, protect their rights, and open up opportunities so that they can reach their full potential. Washington has embraced our immigrants and refugees as valuable members of our community and your donation helps us continue the work.
Thank you for your generosity!
