Hi, my name is Glicerio Zurita and I am the Federal Campaign Lead for OneAmerica and I am an immigrant.

I was born in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico and immigrated to the US in 1999.

In 2009, after 10 years of being in the country, an event impacted my life. My wife Elizabeth was detained in Portland, Oregon, placed in the hands of immigration, and sent to the Tacoma Detention Center because of the federal 287- G program.

In those worst days of my life, I had to make risky but critical decisions in my life. I left my job, my apartment, and used all the resources I had to get my wife out of the Tacoma Detention Center. I finally succeeded in doing that.

Later on, a friend who knew what happened to my wife told me:

"I want to look for an organization to fight for the rights of immigrants." 

He contacted OneAmerica and two staff came to Vancouver to teach us the basics of organizing. I became a volunteer with OneAmerica and took up some meaningful roles such as giving out flyers to people outside of churches, setting up the sound system for meetings, etc.

Today, I want to invite you to join me by supporting OneAmerica for GiveBIG 2021! The campaign will be kicking off on April 20th and will last through GiveBIG Day on May 5th and help me build the power I need to make the changes to this country's immigration system that must be done. 

I once made the decision to fight for my wife Elizabeth, but I also made the decision to fight for the freedom of the 11 million immigrants in this country. I GiveBIG to OneAmerica because I believe in freedom and that power needs to be brought back to the people.
