Hello, my name is Glicerio Zurita, and I am an immigrant who currently serves as the Vancouver Organizer. I hail from the warm coast of Oaxaca, Mexico, and I immigrated to the US in 1999 in search of a better life for my family, particularly my son. In 2009, an event that was a consequence of the discriminatory federal 287-G program impacted my life when immigration officials detained my wife, Elizabeth, in Portland, Oregon, and sent her to the Tacoma Detention Center. Those were the worst days of my life as I had to make critical decisions, including leaving my job and using all my resources to secure my wife's release. Eventually, I succeeded in bringing her home.
Subsequently, a friend who knew of my wife's ordeal introduced me to OneAmerica, an organization that fights for the rights of immigrants. I started volunteering with them, doing simple but meaningful tasks like distributing flyers and setting up the sound system for meetings. Eventually, I became an organizer.

Hola, mi nombre es Glicerio Zurita, y soy un inmigrante que actualmente se desempeña como Organizador de Vancouver. Soy de la cálida costa de Oaxaca, México, y emigré a los EE. UU. en 1999 en busca de una vida mejor para mi familia, en particular para mi hijo. En 2009, un evento que fue consecuencia del discriminatorio programa federal 287-G impactó mi vida cuando los oficiales de inmigración detuvieron a mi esposa, Elizabeth, en Portland, Oregón, y la enviaron al Centro de Detención de Tacoma. Esos fueron los peores días de mi vida ya que tuve que tomar decisiones críticas, incluyendo dejar mi trabajo y usar todos mis recursos para asegurar la liberación de mi esposa. Eventualmente, logré traerla a casa.
Posteriormente, un amigo que sabía de la terrible experiencia de mi esposa me presentó a OneAmerica, una organización que lucha por los derechos de los inmigrantes. Empecé a trabajar como voluntario con ellos, realizando tareas sencillas pero significativas, como distribuir volantes y configurar el sistema de sonido para las reuniones. Eventualmente, me convertí en un organizador.
