I am Elizabeth Ruiz, an immigrant from Oaxaca, Mexico, and a board member of OneAmerica.

I'm involved in the fight for social and immigrant justice due to my own personal experience. I spent two months in immigration detention, which had a devastating effect on me, my family, and close friends. This experience opened my eyes to the unjust immigration system, and OneAmerica gave me the courage to speak out.
