In Loving Memory of Avery Smith

Avery loved life — her family, her friends, and her dog — with a fierce and joyful heart; we love and miss her dearly. Even in the face of unimaginable hardship, she never stopped fighting. Her heart, mind, and soul were unbreakable, even as illness took a deadly toll on her body, she kept kickin' ass.

For nearly five weeks, she received extraordinary care from the Nemours Children's Hospital Cardiac Comprehensive Care Team in Orlando, FL. Their skill, compassion, and dedication gave her comfort, dignity, and every possible chance — and gave our family love and support when we needed it most. We will always be grateful for the humanity and excellence they showed her.

In her honor, our family has chosen to support the Nemours Children's Compassionate Care Fund, an organization whose mission reflects the same kindness and commitment we witnessed firsthand. The Compassionate Care Fund ensures that critically ill and injured children receive world-class care — regardless of a family’s insurance or financial situation — and extends care far beyond hospital walls to the most vulnerable children in our communities.

Rather than flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation in her memory. Your gift will help give other children the same level of expert care, compassion, and hope that meant so much to her and to us.
