In the 22 years I’ve worked for Big Brothers Big Sisters I’ve seen the impact having a mentor can have on the life of a child. I was lucky enough to experience it firsthand in Eric’s and my match with our Little Brother, James. Things have not always been easy for James, but he knows we are here for guidance and support and I truly believe we have had a positive impact on his life. And, I’m so proud that Max (on his own without any suggestions from me) became a Big Brother to Eli in a school based program with the South Central agency in Bloomington. He took the initiative to make a difference, and I hope you will too.
But being a Big is more than just mentoring. It’s about being a cheerleader, a listener, a teacher, and most importantly, a friend. It’s about standing beside our Littles and cheering them on through every milestone, challenge, and success.
Right now, we have 1,000 youth eagerly waiting for mentors like our Bigs. That’s 1,000 lives ready to be changed, 1,000 opportunities to build connections that last a lifetime. These young people are full of potential, and they’re looking for someone who will believe in them, support them, and help guide them toward a brighter future. Our Bigs are stepping up—but we need even more people like them to meet this urgent need!
