Valory Myers

As many of you know I started my involvement by signing up to be a Big Sister to Roneisha in 2012. I didn't really know what it was going to be like, but I knew I wanted to try to get involved in helping youth in our community to be able to follow their dreams. 

Well, 12+ years later I can tell you that I have been changed for good. Roneisha and I were matched for several years from middle school through high school. We loved to window shop, dine out and walk and talk. We still catch up like old friends now. Last month we met up for dinner and I got to spend time with her 2-year old and 4-year old. She's such a great mom and looking forward to celebrating the holidays!

After Roneisha graduated, I signed up to be a big again.I was matched this time with Mariah. We started our match by going through the SMART program at the Indianapolis Arts Center exploring drawing, sculpting and painting. We loved trying new restaurants and our annual State Fair visit is still a tradition now. Mariah already achieved her associates degree in psychology at Ivy Tech and is now pursuing her bachelors at IU Indy. She's also joined the board of BBBSCI. 

Right now, we have 1,000 youth eagerly waiting for mentors like our Bigs. That’s 1,000 lives ready to be changed, 1,000 opportunities to build connections that last a lifetime. These young people are full of potential, and they’re looking for someone who will believe in them, support them, and help guide them toward a brighter future. Our Bigs are stepping up—but we need even more people like them to meet this urgent need!
