Will you help us find better childhood cancer treatments?
Why do we support CKc? I was told a couple years ago that cancer treatment for children hasn't changed since Neil Armstrong took his first steps on the moon. Neil Armstrong's daughter had pediatric cancer, and her options for treatment were the SAME options that exist today. To me, this is mind boggling!
As a child, I became quite ill and after months of testing, I was diagnosed with late-stage Lyme's Disease. The Lyme's Disease caused various autoimmune diseases to be triggered and I spent a lot of my childhood switching drugs, in and out of hospitals, and at doctors offices. I dealt with (and still do!) an array of side effects from the various medications I had to take. I used to think, it could be worse, I could have cancer. Thankfully, that never occurred, but for me, I had a small sliver of what it would feel like had I been told that I had limited options to treat my illnesses. I have always felt deeply for children who have battled cancer, and have always been hopeful for different treatments that could give them a better fighting chance against cancer, and all of the horrible side effects from the existing ones. Years later, after I became a parent, the thought of my children being diagnosed with cancer would be unimaginable. Even more so, the idea that they would only have limited options with dosed-down, toxic, adult treatments would be unbearable.
For these reasons, Blake and I both loved the innovative approach that CKc takes to fund first-of-their-kind treatments for kids' cancers, and want to do all we can to support and raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research. I know we'll find better, less toxic options for kids. Join us in finding live-saving treatments for kids with cancer!
