I met Cannon in 2016 when he was just 4 years old. He was on maintenance chemotherapy after being treated for Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. He was referred to me for his dental treatment needs as he was having tooth pain. I treated Cannon at the Children's OR at Advent Health and nearly all of his teeth were affected with decay.
Kids with cancer are not only battling the cancer, but also all the other "side effects" from their treatment as kids; infertility, digestive, hearing, and even teeth...the teeth they have in their mouth and the ones that are developing. For the ones who survive, they will always be fighting. Better treatment is needed for these kids, as many times, treatment regimens are based off of adult dosing, we need pediatric specific treatments and therapy, we need more pediatric cancer research so we can provide better care.
Since meeting Cannon and his parents who started Cannonball Kids' cancer Foundation, Dave and I have been loyal supporters. We have learned so much from this family and their charity and about the inadequacies in pediatric cancer care. The kids deserve better treatment ...research is key!
All money raised will benefit Cannonball Kids' cancer Foundation. They find less-toxic cancer treatments for kids by funding innovative clinical research. Through their compelling education efforts they help others understand the reality of kids cancer and motivate everyday people to change the status quo.
